Thousands join day-long Anti-Corruption Youth Festival in Mindanao

dsc02814The 2nd Annual Youth Festival was successfully held last February 29, 2008 at the ABC Gymnasium, Oroquieta City. The activity was participated by 11 schools within Oroquieta City.

More than two thousand (2,000) students from different primary, secondary and tertiary schools participated in the annual event. The activities were divided in two major parts: the arts day and the cultural night. Thousands of spectators came to watch the cultural night and awarding ceremony.

The said event that features different arts and music competitions is aimed to enhance students’ creativity and critical thinking and to promote unity among youth. Mural competition, poster-making contest, photo and product exhibit, inter school debate championships and unplugged band competition were among the activities of the youth festival.

Oroquieta City Mayor Hon. Jorge T. Almonte graced the opening program and delivered an inspiring message for the youth. To add, he also gave his salutations and expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the event.

“We are very glad of the outcome and success of the event”, Jemeca Omagbon, Project Coordinator for Women, Youth and Children Program of ECOLINK Philippines said. “Our goal and objectives were achieved through the active participation of the different schools and the students”, she added.

ECOLINK Philippines through the leadership of its Executive Director and CEO Mr. Paul Pastrano Gangoso and the Department of Education Oroquieta City Interim Division through the effort of the Assistant School Division Superintendent Mrs. Gemma O. Losbanos spearheaded the 2nd Annual Youth Festival.

The festival is part of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Initiative II of ECOLINK Philippines funded by the Partnership for Transparency Fund.
