More than just a radio program, the “Bantay Kurapsyon” (Corruption Watch) has been recently cited as the leading public affairs program on-air, research says. No less than the Station Manager of DXNA Radio One FM admits that more and more listeners are tuning in their radios to DXNA since the “Bantay Kurapsyon” begins. Timothy Piedad, Media Officer of ECOLINK and co-anchor of the program also notes that he receives more than 146 text messages every show and at least 21 reports everyday off-show.
The “Bantay Kurapsyon” radio program is one of its kind in Misamis Occidental. It fearlessly tackles issues concerning government offices and corruption as well as issues that concerns the general welfare of the people.
“The most unforgettable experience I have handling the program is when a community member in Barangay Malindang reported that their Barangay Captain has been using their Barangay Vehicle for personal business. After first aired on the program, more than a dozen text messages from residents of the same barangay confirm the case. After two interviews and several denials from the Barangay Captain, the latter later admitted her mistake asked apology to their constituents on air. Since then, people feel empowered. They will report problems concerning government offices without fear. And the program keeps on its track”, Paul Gangoso, ECOLINK’s Executive Director said.
